The New Logo for the UK's National Rail Body is Unveiled.
The administration has unveiled the visual identity for GBR, constituting a key step in its agenda to take the railways into public ownership.
An Patriotic Palette and Historic Logo
The updated livery incorporates a patriotic design to mirror the UK flag and will be applied on rolling stock, at stations, and across its digital platforms.
Significantly, the emblem is the distinctive twin-arrow design presently used by National Rail and originally introduced in the 1960s for the former state operator.
A Implementation Plan
The phased introduction of the design, which was created by the department, is set to occur gradually.
Travellers are expected to start noticing the freshly-liveried services across the UK rail network from next spring.
Throughout December, the branding will be displayed at major railway stations, including Manchester Piccadilly.
A Journey to Renationalisation
The legislation, which will allow the creation of Great British Railways, is currently moving through the Parliament.
The government has argued it is bringing back into public ownership the railways so the service is "run by the passengers, operating for the passengers, not for profit."
The new body will bring the running of train services and infrastructure under one umbrella body.
The government has said it will combine seventeen separate bodies and "eliminate the problematic administrative hurdles and lack of accountability that has long affected the railways."
App-Based Features and Existing Public Control
The launch of GBR will also feature a new app, which will allow passengers to check timetables and purchase tickets free from additional fees.
Accessibility passengers will also be able to use the app to book support.
A number of franchises had already been taken into public control under the former government, including TPE.
There are currently 7 operating companies already in public control, covering about a one-third of passenger trips.
In the last twelve months, South Western Railway have been brought into public ownership, with more expected to follow in 2026.
Official and Sector Comments
"This is not simply a cosmetic change," commented the Transport Secretary. It signifies "a fresh start, shedding the issues of the past and focused completely on delivering a proper passenger-focused service."
Rail figures have responded positively to the government's commitment to bettering services.
"The industry will continue to collaborate with relevant bodies to support a smooth handover to the new system," one executive noted.
